I have an sldasm file that nwhen I try to open it I see the part for 1 sec. then it goes blank I see the part in the tree but it says component not found what am I doing wrong
Sounds like your assembly lost the link to the part. When you try to unsuppress the part it should tell you it is missing and if you want to find it yourself. You can then go to where the part is located. Make sure you save the assembly after the link has been made.
I am not understanding about going to where the part is located
Whatever file your part is saved in. When you open an assembly Solidworks has to be able to find all the parts used in it unless they were created in the assembly and saved internally. If you look at the screen shot below this is the file locations of an assembly. Solidworks goes to all those locations to get the parts to open in the assembly. If one of those files has been moved from that original location I have to tell it where it is located.
So try to unsuppress it and it will ask you where the file is. You then browse to where the file is and it will relink it. If this was sent to you by someone else and they only sent you the assembly then they need to send you all the parts included in the assembly also.
this is what I get when I open the file does this mean the sender did not send a link to the ass. and they need to send another file
Sounds like they gave you an assembly file without the associated parts. You need all parts.
They can save it out as a parasolid or step file. That will create a single file with all the parts, but you won't have a feature tree anymore, just a dumb solid.
Or they can use pack and go and collect up all the parts needed and zip it up into a single file to send you.
thank-You I think that answers my question
