Hi I'm doing some in context routing inside a large assembly, and I'm repeatedly getting drag and drop failures on some of the parts I've designed and added into the routing library. The odd thing is, is that when i close my assembly and re- open it on occasion it works. But it is a large pain in the butt to have to close and re-open my assembly a hundred times before lunch. Now I think this is a SolidWorks glitch because when i try to just open the part itself from the routing library (right click, open) it will not open, and this is happening to more than one specific part unfortunately. I recently upgraded to Solidworks 2015 SP4 from Solidworks 2015 SP3 so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Any possible ideas as to what may be causing my problem would be greatly appreciated!
Tyson,
There can be all kinds of reasons why for instance opening a part by RMB in the librar fails.
One of them being that unbeknownst to you there are more then one instance of Solidworks open.
this because the previous instance didn't shutdown correctly or it fail to start correctly and you started a new instance
Something similiar applies to the drag&drop failures.
Let's say that you have TOP (assembly) with subA and subB (subassemblies) and in both you have a PartX.
Now if for one reason or another SW believes that you used a PartXc (which is a copy of PartX that resides on your C drive) in subA you'll notice that you can't drag&drop PartXd (which is the original version of the part in your library).
No matter that you never ever have brought any part in from you C drive, if the program thinks that it came from there then you can get strange things happening.
Quickest way to check for that, that I know of, is by using SWexplorer to surf to all the subA's and subB's and one by one checking them with SWexplorer using the References tab to check the full path of the components
Of course it can very well be that the reasons of your particular troubles are something all together different.
Rest assured though that I don't think SP4 has anything to do with it because I've experienced this kinds of problems way back in '09 and I'm not at the moment (now where's a piece of wood when you need to knock it).
Have a nice one
Peter
