Pre-PCI Express Graphics cards

Hello all,

I am trying to find the BEST graphics card available for a pre-PCIexpress system. We would like to go this route rather thanupgrade our motherboards. If anyone has any information itwill be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Try searching EBay for any of the NVidia Quadro FX agp cards... 1000, 1100, 2000, 3000 or 4000. We recently purchased two FX 1000's on EBay to upgrade a pair of older workstations. In my experience, the FX 1000 and 1100 cards offer very good performance and stability - not top of the line but very serviceable for an aging workstation. Or search for equivalent FireGL cards, if you prefer ATI over NVidia.

  We currently have the NVidia Quadro FX 1100, but it does not havenear the capability that we are after. We are working withlarge assemblies with sometimes hundreds of components.

    I hate to say this but you are probably better of building a wholenew system in the long run. Because unless I am wrong your probablyfalling pretty far behind in other areas besides just your videocar. What are the specs of your computer.

      If you can find any Geforce 6800 Ultras, you can soft mod them intoa Quadro FX 4000. This is one of the fastest AGP cards youcan get for SW and it should save you a little bit of money.

      We currently have IBM IntelliStationw M Pro w/ Intel Pentium 4,3.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM, 32 GB Hard Drive... As far as I can tell.

        Unfortunately video cards don't have near the effect on performance in Solidworks as a new processor.
        
        A newer Core 2 Duo system will SCREAM compared to what you have right now.
