Try the following.
1. Log onto your PC as the local administrator not a user with admin rights.
2. Follow the instructions below to turn off the problems being experienced in earlier versions of Windows
a. Click 'Start', click 'Run', type "regedit" in the 'Open' box, and then click 'OK'.
b. Locate and click the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Note: If this subkey does not exist, create it.
c. In the 'Edi't menu, point to 'New', and then click 'DWORD Value'.
d. For the DWORD name, type "RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy", and then press 'Enter'.
e. Right-click "RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy", and then click 'Modify'.
f. In the 'Value' data box, type 1, and then click 'OK'.
g. Install SolidWorks.
h. After the application installs successfully, reset the 'RemappedElevatedProxiesPolicy' DWORD value to "0" to re-enable the security fix for KB 3072630.
Hopefully this will have the desired effect, it did for me..
Be aware that the 2015 SP4 version is not supported for use with Windows 10 you may want to wait for SP5
thanks for trying to help. I waited a while and received no reply. I'm on a project and couldn't waste so much time on windows 10.
so I simply did a restore by a system image and went back to windows 8.1 to be able to continue my job on this project.
I think I will wait until sp5.
thanks for your advice
I am expecting to 'upgrade' to W10 in the next few days. Will that mean that I cannot use SolidWorks Student Edition 2014-15?
You will probably run into problems once you go to Windows 10 a bit of modification to your installation may get you back to a functional system, if you are using SolidWorks for anything important I would suggest you wait to upgrade.
I've installed w10pro from w7pro. The solidworks 2013, which was working with w7, now is working better with w10. I have a DELL m4600 Precision. I would like to know more reports from someone else who is testing it.
I faced a lot of troubles after a clean install of windows 10 enterprise. The above solidwork's installation problem was one of them.
I have a triple monitor set with a nVidia grpghic card which stopped working too.
nVidia still hasn't released a stable driver.
In DELL website they say that my workstation has not been tested to work with Windows 10. However the next model,DELL M4700, was tested.
So I've been lucky with my computer. I've been working with very large assemblies and it worked very well.
The next days I'll try to install solidworks 2014 SP1.
