Hi,

SolidWorks is released later in the calendar cycle than Autodesk products - so you must have 1 release later of Autodesk product to read SolidWorks file.
Example - you must have Inventor 2015 to read SolidWorks 2014 file. (In other words - Inventor 2015 will not read SolidWorks 2015).
If all you need to do is read the files - you might try A360 Viewer.
Otherwise, request neutral format file like STEP (*.stp) from source.
In AutoCAD there is an specialized command for importing the solidworks geometry known as "ACISIN". Or else there is an another option you can export the solidworks file as (.dwg) file format [ File > Save As > Set format .dwg and save the file] Now you can directly open the .dwg file into AutoCAD.

You will need to export them from solidworks to a file type for inventor or autocad.
