Has anyone had problems with no preview when opening files? This is a real nuisance! It is forcing me to remember 100's of part numbers and assembly files.
Go to control pannel ---> system ---> advance system setting --->in advance tab --->performance ----> let windows choose what is best for my computer.
Which version of SolidWorks are you using, I have seen something similar that was resolved by installing SolidWorks 2015 SP3.
Check the option in "Tools / Options / System Options / General / Show Thumbnails in Windows Explorer" is selected. Then try setting the display of icons in a folder containing SolidWorks files to large and see if they refresh to show the thumbnail.
Also try the below.
Open Windows Explorer
Hit the ALT key to see all menus "Tools / Folder Options / View" Uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails"
If you haven't found your solution yet, try mine...
"No Preview Available" - another possible solution - FYI.
Thanks Daniel Bertschi (And Cami Florence) for this info! I had been frustrated to see that ability stop working for me and this morning I bumped up to SP4 (2015) which required the registry mod... but things seem to work! Awesome... I am amazed how a little, insignificant victory can make my day.
Thank you again!
This almost works - at least for me. When I go to open a file in SW (2015 SP 3.0) the very first file I click on (doesn't matter if part assembly or drawing) will not show a preview. All other files appear to preview fine. The first file selected will not preview until I exit SW and restart. Then the first file selected will not preview again. Weird.
This is just a total guess on my part, but something else I had to do on my system to get things running 'As it should'. We have networked SW licenses, and my icons were not the expected yellow 'tetris' blocks & mini dwg. I had to associate the file types to the SolidWorks Launcher, not SolidWorks. The WHY is beyond me at this point, but on the advice of my VAR, I tried it and it worked. I mention it because it sounds like something isn't 'sticking' in the file recognition area. Good Luck!
I checked this and part, assembly and drawing files are associated to SW Launcher already.
I am about to get crazy becuase of not being able to enable thumbnail preview! I keep seeing files as yellow tetris blocks. In fact, I tried all solutions posted in this thread.
KB3072630 is not installed in my system which is Windows 10.
SW version is 2014 Sp5 x64.
Sorry to tell you Eray, you'll need to upgrade your SW or downgrade your OS.

Hello, have you looked at this option Tools -> Options -> System Options -> Performance -> No preview during open (faster)?
I believe the OP is looking to see the file preview in the 'File Open' dialog box. This is a registry issue for many people, and resolved in my write-up.
The System Setting (Performance) you mention controls whether the user sees a preview of the model during the file opening process. When unchecked, the system will perform better with large assemblies & complex parts. For general use, it won't make a noticeable difference.
I'm sure you know this, but explaining the difference might help other users.
