I am trying to figure out how Solidworks 2014 stores the equations between parts.

Am I correct in assuming that all sub-level components in an assembly which share values with the upper level will see those equations defined in the upper level itself?

As illustrated in picture Equations_Level_0.jpg attached, do I have to understand that Part1 which is a component of the upper assembly has its variables calculated and "pushed" to it from that upper level assembly and that the equations in the component itself are nothing but plain values ?

Hi Dominique,

You are correct in that if the global variable and the equations are written in the Assy level then the linked dimensions of the part are being driven by that Assy level equation. In the part level equation folder there won't be any values however the dimensions etc. will display the equation symbol. Also in the Assy level you will b e able to see that the equation folder has external references. I hope this is what you meant
