Fake parts in BOM

Let's say I have an existing part, an air cylinder, and wanted toadd a part to it such as pneumatic fittings but did not want totake the time to draw out the part, create an assembly, and bringin the fitting to the cylinder so that the fitting would show up inthe BOM. Is there a way to do this such that the part showsup in the BOM as a separate line item but I do not have to actuallyhave it in the part or even take the time to draw it and include itin there?

You can add it manually to the BOM. If you're using the Excel based BOM, double click on it and add the info. If you're using the SW BOM, right click on the last line, insert row below.

  Adding it manually would be fine; but it also means that I willhave to remember to add the items manually every time I use thepart. Is there no way of having the part come inautomatically when ever I bring in that air cylinder?

    You can create a blank part file (with the descriptions, part numbers) that represents the fittings, but you'll have to remember to insert them when you insert the cylinder.
    
    Works well if you decide to go back later and add solid geometry.
    
    You may also look at trying this with the "Smart Component" feature so it will insert them all. Not sure if it will work with empty part files but it may.

      I tested this and it does work. Create an assembly and insert your cylinder and blank fitting parts. Then "Insert/Smart Component" and select the cylinder as the Smart Components and add the blank parts as components, then save the assembly (you can delete the assy aftewards, its no longer needed).
      
      Now insert the cylinder into any assembly. Its icon has a star on it to indicate its a smart component. Right click it and select "Insert Smart features". Now all the parts are in the assembly with the cylinder and they show in the BOM.

        Wow this works great! Perfect solution. Does exactlywhat I needed. The nice thing about this is, as youmentioned, we can delete the assy afterwards and the smart featurestays with the component or part file. Now I can vault thepart file, and whenever I need it, it will bring in all associatedaccessories for which I do not really want to take the time to drawas they are commercially available.
