I start light and go up. I don't do many analyses, so I don't have a set routine. You may want to try adding a soft spring along with the damper. Just a little something to spice things up for the FEA algorithms. SW Simulation has an option to stabilize with soft springs.
When I was first trained in FEA, I was warned about overly stiff systems. FEA algorithms don't calculate answers, they calculate errors. If a system is too perfect, it flakes out.
Examples of where I add dampening: free body motion, spring systems, anything with impact, and simulating contact with springs.
how much is light? and what can i do in axi symmetric simulation besides global damping? should i make little pieces of rubber between parts or something?
