What are the common ways to create a BOM?
What is the easiest?
What is the most comprehensive?
Can the answer come with a valium please?
Make a drawing, insert a view, R-click on view->Insert->Tables->BOM
Then start messing w/ custom properties, formats, etc. and saving out your own BOMs.
I'm getting crazy quantities like 1513 baseplates when theres only one.
That sounds crazy. From a simple drawing of a part? You _can_ override the qty property, so maybe it's messed up and buried in a part/assy configuration specific custom property? OR it could be the BOM itself has been changed. You can add values to the BOM.
I'd try the same approach with a very basic assembly/drawing, then add a basic BOM and see what happens.
If you add another baseplate to the assembly, does the quantity stay the same, double, or go up by 1?
The number that was populating that field was coming from a configuration number. Look at this:
Im trying to figure out how to get the QTY/ASSY field to be exactly that. Not the Configurations/default.
What am I doing wrong?
Sorry It's hard to tell exactly what is wrong and what you would like. Is there any chance you can attach the assembly and drawing? Don't forget to include the part files too if you do.
I start my BOM in the assembly view to make sure all parts are named/numbered/count properly. Then I delete that BOM and create a drawing with the BOM. We have a bunch of older files with missing custom properties, this allows me to update them quickly.
