need to be able to pull a measurement from top surface of plate to a point where a 3d line would intersect thru it

Good morning All,

I have a file that I received from a detailer that I need to get some dimensions from.  I'm having an issue being able to pull a certain measurement from a straight edge of a plate to a 3d line where it protrudes thru the top surface of it (see the second screenshot with 9").  When using the measuring tool, the triangle I am getting doesn't have a leg parallel to the top surface of the plate.  I am attaching both the assembly file (hopefully not too big!) as well as the screenshot from the detailer showing 9" as the dimension that I should be getting.  I think the issue is that I'm not sure how the get the intersecting point where the line goes thru the plate at the top surface.  Since its only a line, the convert entities/intersecting curve will not work for me.  Thanks in advance!
