Question about mirroring weldments. 

If I have a Structural Member Feature and I mirror it as bodies, The command will error out if I select the merge bodies button.  However with it cleared, The result is collinear members (see the attached image) that i would like to be single pieces are shown as 2 pieces, and display in the cut list as 2 pcs.  In the attached image the pieces circled in red would like to be merged.  The ends of those pieces are coincident with the mirror plane (front plane in this case)

Combine bodies works, a little clunky to have to go in and do another command, but it works, however SW seems to recommend against it. see here:  2013 SOLIDWORKS Help - Combine Bodies  In my relatively simple example it works ok, and the cut list updates as it should.

Anyone have any best practices they use for mirrored structures similar to this example.
