i got a .sldasm from customer it opens show me the assy then says can not find component files and suppresses the whole assy. what do i do?
thanks everyone you have been most helpful !!
They need to send you all of the part files that are used in the assembly file.
I thought if it showed the parts they were part of the assembly already.
If you follow Deepak and Williams suggestions it will work fine. Just have them pack and go and you will be all set. After you have the files when you try to unsuppress them it will ask where they are located. After you do the first part the rest will follow suit knowing the file location.
What it shows is an icon (picture) of the assembly that it saved for reference. It takes a lot less horsepower to display that image than actually create the geometry. The assembly file is basically the instruction manual to build the assembly, but without the parts (files) SW can't actually build the assembly.
If you need to view, then open in Large Design Review mode or open in eDrawings.
If you need to work at it (modify, etc.) then you need all components. Ask them to pack and go the files and send over the zip to you.
Ask you customer to do a pack and go. This will grab all the files for the assembly and zip them up. All you need to do is unzip the file to your desired location then open the assembly. If SW cant find the files just point it back to the folder you unzipped to and you should be good.
