I'm not sure what is going on. I was editing a drawing and now that I got everything I need done completed, The drawing is not allowing me to save it. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Thanks for your help. I figured out how to do it. When I went to close the drawing, a dialog box appeared asking if I wanted to save any changes or discard them. I clicked save and it worked. I don't know why I didn't think of trying that earlier. Thanks for your help Mark, John, and Glenn.
Try saving it under a different name.
won't work, it isn't giving me th option to save at all, the save button, file>save, and control + s are all not working
I have come across this a number of times and it can be caused by a number of different reasons, the first port of call I would suggest would be to complete a full rebuild (Ctrl and Q) and possibly a redraw (Ctrl R or View- Redraw) and try saving again.
Is there any error messages encountered when performing the save ?
neither worked and I posted a pic to show what is happening, there is no error message, it is simply not giving me the option to save
Are you running two screens?
What happened here already I was interrupted and had to open another application which hid a SolidWorks dialog box, a bugger to find right away, took some head scratching and then Duh.....
I am running 2 screens and have minimized all windows and there is no dialog box
Try pressing esc (a few times) it may be a hidden command that you have entered by accident and you cant see the window ?.
I have pressed esc several time and unless the command is refusing to exit, I dont have one activated
Could this of been a process which you performed during editing the drawing ?
"Save", "Save as", "New", "Open" and "Print" become grayed out in a drawing when a driven dimension is added in editing block and the text is edited.
that is what I did but I have done it before and this has never happened. I did this because I don't need the drawing to scale, I simply need the dimensions as it is just a sales drawing. Is there a different way I should be annotating it?
Is your drawing in the edit sheet mode?
This is a bug reported in SPR 731260 "Save", "Save as", "New", "Open" and "Print" become greyed out in a drawing when a driven dimension is added in editing block and the text is edited".
I have tested on my own machine and have also been able to reproduce the issue, though unfortunately not as of yet not been able to kick it in to allowing me to save the document (even after the delete of the block in question).I Will keep trying and let you know if I find a work around.
ok, thanks, and thanks to all other who tried to help.
I have tried without avail to try and get it to allow me to save, hopefully what i have suggested will ensure you dont get the same problem next time round.
Hello, might be a little late, but I have found that this macro from another thread that was made by someone else has been very useful. Even if the "Save" and "Save As..." options are greyed out and unable to be chosen, running a macro is still possible. Here is the code for the macro:
Option ExplicitDim swApp As SldWorks.SldWorksDim oModel As SldWorks.ModelDoc2Sub main() On Error Resume Next Set swApp = Application.SldWorks If Not swApp Is Nothing Then Set oModel = swApp.ActiveDoc() If Not oModel Is Nothing Then Call oModel.UnLock End If Set oModel = Nothing End If Set swApp = Nothing If Err.Number <> 0 Then Err.ClearEnd Sub
Hopefully running the macro whenever you encounter this problem works for you. If it does, pass it along to others.
