By default, are loads applied in a following (nonconservative) or nonfollowing (conservative) manner? Also, how do I switch between the two options?
Thanks for the help!

Andrei,
Thanks for reply!
So that I'm clear:
1. In static and nonlinear studies, SolidWorks defaults to nonfollowing (conservative) loads. In nonlinear studies, checking the box 'Update load direction with deflection' changes loads to be following. Is that correct?
2. Also, for static and nonlinear studies, 'large displacement formulation / flag' assumes that the material stiffness is not constant and updates the model each step as load is applied. Correct?
Thanks again.
1. Correct 2015 SOLIDWORKS Help - Nonlinear - Solution
2. Partial Correct - only in nonlinear the stiffness is not constant (variable) in static study the stiffness is constant and I am not sure if you can have large displacements :
It's available only in non-linear study which is only in Premium package :
Go to project with right click Properties... then in the menu 'Geometry nonlinearity options' under the check 'Use large displacement formulation' you have another check : 'Update load direction with deflection (Available only for normal forces)'
