What might the reason be behind me not being able to make these 2 sketched circles "equal"?
Sketch 1 is the sketch that was used to create the pipe extruding out of the block.
Sketch 2 is the pipe I'm trying to extrude off of the pipe elbow.
Why can't I add an "Equal" relation to make my new sketch equal in diameter to the existing sketch?

I've noticed the same behavior. Seems to mostly happen when it's separate sketches on planes that aren't parallel to each other. If the planes are parallel it "usually" works fine.

because the projection of the first circles onto the current sketch plane is not a circle - it is either a line or ellipse.
make them equal or coradial to the edges on the end of the elbow.

use linked dimensions

use equations

That does make sense, but this still seems like something that should be possible in my opinion. I would think Solidworks would realize the first sketched circle had a diameter and that I want to duplicate that diameter.
I just made them equal to the elbows edges, which I shoulda done in the first place (duh moment).

It will only let me make a sketch circle equal to the I.D. of the elbow, O.D. doesn't work. I'm assuming because of the Chamfer On the elbow making the O.D. edge of the elbow not on the same plane as my sketch.
I punted and just re-dimensioned my new sketch rather than trying to use relations.
right - didn't look close enough at the picture the first time. there does not appear to be any straight "leg" on that elbow. so the outer edge of the chamfer would not quite be an actual circle.
="varname" or ="D11@Sketch1" when you first make a dimension or in the equations menu (I keep the equations menu to a shortcut key hooked up to my mouse). Gets really easy to maintain parametric sketches when you don't have to go 4 deep in menus to get anywhere.
A variable is (in my opinion) the best method.
Even if the circles are into different part, you can link the the variable from another part.
Another method would be to convert entities from the original sketch, which would show up as a line in your new sketch with the length equal to the diameter. Then you could draw a diameter line on your new circle and set it equal to the converted line.
You can also add a construction line in both sketches from quadrant to quadrant. Then make them equal.
that works only as long as the line in the first sketch is parallel to the second sketch plane. otherwise the projection will be foreshortened.
The second sketch could have been a "Derived Sketch" if you want them exactly the same...
I've also had problems with setting equal relations between sketch elements from different sketches, especially if they aren't on the same plane. The best I can suggest is to set a global variable equal to the diameter of the circle in sketch 1, and link the dimension in sketch 2 to this global variable. Someone else may have a better idea.
