I have created a simple weldment. When I try to do simulation tests globes appear at some strategic points (and not others).
I have been studying tutorial videos 'til I got square eyeballs but no-one explains the mysterious globes. Can someone please help?
What do the globes signify?
Why don't they appear at every corner?

Here I have Olive Drab Balls at two joints and no balls at all at two ends.
Is Solidworks fairly open-minded about what is a joint and what is a free end, or is there something wrong with my weldment?
There is issue with your weldment part. The merge option is selected in the weldment. Check attached video on fixing the issue.

What is the significance of converting the two longtitudnal members to beams?
When we used the split function I believe they no longer remains beam and were being treated as solid. So you would not see the two more globes. Plus since all of the are beams it is good to have them as beam for simulation purpose (though you can do simulation of mixed types i.e. solid and beams)
