I have developed a mannekin to use to test spaces for a project. This is Michael:
Michael is fine as an SLDASM file all on his own, all his jonts are mobile. But when I tried to sit him on a floor in another SLDASM he froze solid. Worst case of Rigor Mortis I ever saw.
How do I free him up so I can sit him on the mattress?

I read that sub-assemblies link as set Resolve to Flexible. That means that now, when I take Michael by the hand amd try to shake it his head rolls right back over his shoulders.

You can use " Configuration" to set Michael at different position. Please study how to make Configuration in Help file.

Michael is flexible, but uncontrollably so. There doesn't seem to be any way to take one of his limbs and move it to where I want it without something else going crazy. Furthermore, I cannot, for example, constrain one foot to the mattress and try to move other parts. See what happened to his head:

I suggest you add some constraints ( Mate) to limit the movement of the parts.
And you can use the mate to control each joint rotation as well.

I am not worried about over-exuberant joint movement for the purposes of this model, but I tried constraining, say, one foot so I could move the rest of him against that.
Doesn't work.
I can't find any way to 'Fix' any part for the same purpose.
I tried making the torso tangential to the mattress but that didn't work either.
I know about configurations but I need to be able to move Michael to fit the environment, not give him a posture and make the environment fit that.
I'm all out of ideas at the moment.

I don't have time to look at your model right now, but when trying to manipulate it have you tried right-clicking and dragging on specific parts instead of left-clicking?

Yes I have. And Wheel-click-and-drag.
This might be worthy of another thread, but is there some logic to where to put the cursor before clicking when you are trying to manipulate the whole assembly. E.g., do you put the cursor to the right of Michael, then hold down the right key, and grag right-to-left to get him to rotate on his vertical axis? If there is I haven't found the logic.

I have some progress in this problem of being able to manipulate Michael. Attacted is a full set of the files for the Bathmat Test. The object of the exercise is to sit Michael on the mat - back upright, bum at one end of the mat and feet at the other. The mat is fixed to the origin on the Top Plane.
Michael is mobile in that (sometimes) his body parts move independently. This is as close as I have had him (but look what happened to his hat! ):
The question is, what makes which part move and in what direction. There doesn't seem to be any logic to it, but I am sure there must be. Please, has anyone solved this conundrum, and if so what is the solution?

Further advance this morning.
I have discovered that if I make posture adjustments to Michael in his own SLDASM, rebuild that then rebuild the Bathmat Test, the posture changes are reflected in the Bathmat Test. This is aided by setting Fix on one body part and then moving an ajacent part (this is how I solved problems with the movement of the neck). So I can get this:
but you will note that, although he is crouching he is still fundamantally perpendicular to the Top Plane as shown. My problem now seems a little simpler.
How do I rotate Michael WRT the Top Plane? All I seem to be able to accomplish is to rotate the whole assembly, planes and all. I can't see a way to Fix the planes.
The answer was in the previous post. It is all about playing with planes. By setting plane Mates I got this alignment.
My next step will be to define a Bum Plane in Michael's SLDASM and Mate that with the surface of the Bath Mat.
If that doesn't work, I'll sure get back to you.
