Is there a way to hide subdirectories and files within subdirectories from other departments within the company whom have access to EPDM?
There isn't any way to hide a folder if users have read rights to the parent, but if they open it they won't see anything.
Do you need something beyond removing read access permissions to those folders?
Yes, I am in the R & D engineering department. We do not want people outside the department to see what we are working on before we are ready to present it.
I think that is what Charley is asking. Only give the R & D engineering department access to the folders.
I have already removed rights to the subdirectories and files, but you can still see that they are there. We have curious people that think they need to know everything.
If they had the files cached on their machines then they will see gray "ghost" folders. The cache would need to be cleared on their machine.
They don't have permissions here?
As an added approach - depending on your workflow you can also hide files in a certain Edit state (State Permissions vs Folder Permissions). Some of our users (purchasing, machine shop) can only see files in a Released state. Then we don't have to worry as much about where the files are.
I already have this for everyone outside of engineering.
