This is what I could find. I didn't include the math behind the algorithms. Other than that, I've heard before that the stiffness of the two materials is averaged across the bonded face in earlier versions. I vaguely remember hearing that this was changed in 2015, but I can't find proof.

Hertzian Contact Theory applies for those contacts where the contact area grows smoothly with increasing normal load from zero area (a
point) under zero normal load into an ellipse.

Hertzian Contact stress is not calculated correctly in Solidworks and likely won't be fixed until v2016.
