How does one change the face on which a hole is placed?

Hi all,

I think this should be easier than how I do it - but maybe that is the only way...?

In the tree, expand the hole feature, find the sketch that defines the placement of the holes, click on it and select the "Edit Sketch Plane"... It is a pain to have to leave the feature to change this and then go back into it. As I type this I think it sounds pretty whiny and lame. But I already typed it, so , maybe I'll learn something - maybe not.

Shouldn't this be accessible in the Hole Property Manager? Is it? Any other way...?

Correct Answer

As others have said that is the only way. But you shouldn't really need to go back into the hole wizard feature after changing the plane. Just set up the hole the way you want it and then exit and change the sketch plane. One exception might be if you need to see the hole preview to help you set the correct size or depth, then you might need to go back into the feature after changing the plane.

Sounds like a great idea but not sure how would this deal when using 3d sketch in hole wizard.

In both a 3D and 2D sketch you can access the Property Manager for the Hole Wizard.

In the case of a 2D sketch as Deepak Gupta mentions, editing the plane is the only way to change faces for sure.

However, in the case of 3D sketch, you can still edit the Property Manager or the 3D Sketch directly. The actions from there are the same: Change the 3D face reference by selecting the 3D point.

Delete the reference surface from the Selected Entities dialog then add a new reference by selecting the point and the new surface (it doesn't have to be circular or spherical):

Here is the result of moving the hole wizard hole from one 3D surface to another.
