There is a plug-in to do that : http://www.datakit.com/cad-convertors/solid-edge-3d-to-solidworks-3d/1800-solid-edge-3d-to-solidworks.html
It's not free, but it's a good investment if you need to import Solid Edge files frequently. (You can request a trial on the website if you want to try it before, to see if it fits your needs).
Thanks for the reply, I did come across their website and have downloaded their demo version. Unfortunately the demo version only converst to 3D .PDF files so I cannot get a true sense of the functionality. I would have to buy a license in order to convert a file to check that all custom properties transferred to SolidWorks properly.
Thanks for the advice!
Did you try CrossManager or the plug-in i have mentioned above?
With the plug-in, you should have a demo with full functionalities.
Thanks for the reply again. I have requested a demo license from them, I received the file and installed their apps but came across some difficulty with the plug-in. The issue is that I have a set of Sheetworks for Unfold, this is an OEM set of Solidworks Office that has been rebranded by Amada Co. in Japan. The changes that Amada make to Solidworks blocks the registering of any additional Add-Ins other than what they have allowed. Even if I open the .dll from within Sheetworks an error occurs and the message "Unable to initialize add-in component" appears.
I am not certain that I will be able to resolve the error that Sheetworks gives me as | have no idea what files are responsible for blocking/unblocking the add-in functions of SolidWorks. For now I have requested a trial license for the CrossManager app in order for us to test its functionality. I will let you know if I am successful with this!
