'zero-thickness geometry' error when having two lofted cuts to the same vertex

Hi all,

I wanted to create two lofted cut features to the same vertex (circled in red in the second picture) to create two openings like a sandglass but a rectangular shape. The geometry highlighted in orange (Cut-Loft3) is already created successfully (circled in black in the first picture) but when I try to create the other one to the same vertex the system gives me a rebuild error saying 'unable to create this feature because it would result in zero-thickness geometry.' I understand that the error is referring to the vertex they both converge to but is there a way to get around this?
