I assume you're talking about the grid while sketching:
nope, i figured out though if you double click outside it it changes to a 3D sketch and hides the plane
Looks like all you have to do is just double click outside of the layout sketch and the grid disappears leaving you in 3D sketch mode.
Hope that helps.
^^ This is why I wish the OP date was on the main screen of the forum. ~ 2.5 years late, LOL
Isn't there any way to get rid of the grid without switching to 3D sketching?

Yes. Two ways, as a matter of fact. De-select it as shown above by Mark Kaiser, or as shown below from the heads-up drop-down.
Thanks for the suggestions, Glenn, but the grid visibility is turned off, yet I still see a grid.
Can we get a screenshot of your graphics window and feature tree, with the grid on?
This thread is so old and I haven't used a grid in forever.....
Oh, a layout in Assembly mode. I'm not sure you can turn that grid off.
Well, I tried the double click in graphics area, turned the grid off.
Yes, double-click does turn the grid off, but it also changes to 3D sketch mode, which is more trouble than having the grid.
