I want assign a material to an assembly (for example ST-37) how can I do it ?
You cannot. But you can expand each part in the feature tree and assign a material to it from the assembly. But the material is assigned to a part or body.
Why is there a custom property to specify assembly material? As I understand it, creating drawings of individual parts utilizes the material custom property to automatically insert part material. I have the assembly material property saved, but am unable to do anything with it as SW says the material is not specified at the assembly level. I have not found where to specify the material at the assembly level. Maybe this assembly material property is just an empty property that can't be used?
Let´s say you have some parts in an assembly and they have material assigned to them e.g. AISI 304. Or let´s say it´s just the first part in the assembly that has AISI 304 assigned to it and you want to make a drawing only of the assembly not the parts but you want to use the file properties "material in the assembly file and you don´t want to just write AISI 304 there you want it to be linked to the first part in the assembly so it will show up correct on the drawing.
Instead of just write AISI 304 you could add this "SW-Material@part1.SLDPRT" instead. It is saying that you want the material properties in part1.sldprt to be shown and it is linked to it.
Hope this helps.
After a bit of tinkering, I got that to work. Thank you, Ingvar Magnusson.
Excuse me Ingvar,
in that way you have to save the first part as "part1.sldprt"? Another issue is that (in my case) the material property is linked to the sw material list, non writed manually. How can i do? I'm using the property tab builder and i can't fix him!
How where i have to put the string "SW-Material@part1.SLDPRT"?
I found that it works with a slightly different command. "SW-Material@@Default@part.sldprt"
