Hi, I am relatively new to both softwares as I usually use Pro/E but was given a catia v5 file and made to work with sw. I am able to open the assembly file in sw but i can't see the dimensions even after checking "show feature dimension". May I get some help on how to go about this? thank you so much!
Best guess is that it came in as a dumb solid. You should be able to use the measure tool to measure things, but there probably isn't any feature data. If it's actually an assembly, you should also be able to open each part and run FeatureWorks on it (available in pro and premium SolidWorks) to get usable data.

I believe I answered both those questions already. You can use the measure tool (found under the 'Evaluate' tab) to measure the parts. If you have SolidWorks Pro or Premium, you can use FeatureWorks (found under Add-Ins) to create features and convert the dumb solids to SolidWorks parts. You'll need to assign material properties, then you should be able to run simulation.
