i have a pipe assembly drawing, i used 150 lb 316 stainless steel, socket weld. how do i callout the welds, wich specification should i refer to?
It is entirely dependent on what the end use is. ASME B31 (Standards of Pressure Piping) has individual sections covering many of the common piping types. You can use this document to help determine which B31 section is applicable.
For your reference......Item 9 in the pic below is a 150# socket weld flange with a weld call out. Not sure if it helps you at all.
thanks chris, I like how he is using an offset fillet weld, I wonder what the p-14 looks like, probably a procedure spec.
I found this on the net, its from mil std 22 on welding, we don't use mil specs here, I need to find out if mil 22 cross refs to an asme or ansi spec.
I know a spec for a socket weld flange is ANSI B16.5. You might be able to look thru that to see if it points you to a welding spec.
that sketch is wrong anyway, p-14 is for fittings, p-15 is for flanges
