Sounds like a process handle has been lost. Try restarting your machine. If it persists, use Windows recovery to roll your registry back to your last restore point.
Windows updates re-register DLL's all over the place, some of which are addressed by Solidworks. As a result, some functionality can be broken on occasion. Another area I'd investigate is you're virus scanner. If you're seeing the problem occuring frequently, I try disabling it and see if the problem goes away. If that's the cause, then you might have to let your Virus Scanner Vendor know about a regression and disable the monitoring app until they issue an updated hueristic profile..
