I would like to animate the filling of a moving object. I can animate the filling of the object but I cannot animate the moving of the object while filling is occurring. Is there anyway to do this. I have attached the model I have been experimenting with. If you run the motion study you will see the wagon filling to a choke point and then the rest of the wagon being filled. What I also want to show is the wagon moving from right to left while the filling is occurring.

but what are you looking to gain here? do you need to know the physical behavior or just animate show?

Thanks for getting back to me. All I am trying to do is produce an animation to represent the filling operation. Also, the file I attached has the parts embedded so you should be able to open it.
Just to clarify, I am trying to animate material flowing from a bin into a moving wagon.
As you have found, I tried doing this with a heap of spheres in an assembly and then using the motion analysis to show me how they fall out of a vessel into another vessel. Worked well for a small number of contacts but fell over when I used a large number of contacts. (+5000 or so)
what is your end goal? do you need to know that the way you're filling works or just trying to show that something fills?
if the latter, go away from motion and find some other way to do it. like a sketch that changes size/shape to show the filling process.
other wise you just have to let things crunch.
My end goal was just an animation to show a wagon moving from left to right while it was being filled. So far I can do one or the other. I can make the wagon move or I can fill it. Can't seem to do both at the same time.
how long do you have to do the work? if you can get things to move and fill, are you good with days of solve time? if not, find a clever way to show the filling using animation.
There is no rush for getting this done. Just trying to create something for sales. I have a spare machine so I could go back to the method of patterning a heap of spheres and letting them fall under gravity but the animation I have been working on (the file I originally attached) seemed the simplest way, if I can just get the motion of the wagon and the animation of the wagon being filled working together
i ran the "motion study" with animation and it works fine
i don't see any definition of the left to right motion
you'll basically need to create a subassembly that you can move
and then your "filling" be part of that subassembly and controlled separately
i'm really not sure where you are stuck since it looks like the model you have posted doesn't have any of the left right motion defined at all
My mistake. I had a motor attached to one end of the rectangular box, trying to push all the components in one direction by to a certain distance. I took this out as it wasn't working.
One other thing. In the model environment, all the parts are free to move within their constraints. In the motion study environment only the last 4 parts are free to move. I cannot free move the Wagon part so say set its position at certain times. This might be the issue.
if you can't move it with a mate (like a distance mate) or drag it, it won't move in any animation or motion study
did you get it to work?
you posted only the sldasm, best to do a pack and go zip so that your assembly and parts are included.

you're looking to fill something. do you need to animate it or get the physical behavior?
are you filling it with a liquid or solid?
and what is the issue with the moving part? what is not working?
