is there a shortcut for opening a drawing on the standard 3 planes. The feature tree gets long quickly and it would be nice If I don't have to scroll all the way up to select the right plane and right click to sketch on it.

That sounds good. How do you go about making that macro. I am interested in opening sketches with a shortcut on all of the 3planes.

If you hit the home key on the keyboard it automatically sends you up to the top of the tree
You can do one plane at a time so I could write 3 macro, one each for each plane. And then you can set keyboard shortcuts for them. Thsi would save you many mouse click vs press a button

Anton - You can also save your "New" part template in the sketch mode then every time you start a new part it is always in the sketch mode ready to go.
You can only work on one sketch at a time, not sure what you mean by: "opening sketches with a shortcut on all of the 3planes" ??
Thanks you all. I will set up macros. It looks like that is the way to go.
John - I am trying to cut on the mouse travel and minimize the clicks. When I build parts the feature tree gets long quickly and if I have to select a plane I have to scroll up the tree or hit home and then select the plane and another click to start the sketch. I do a lot of that while modeling. I was looking for a one click solution.
You may benefit in grouping the sketches in folders etc, to keep your feature tree shorter...
Don't know any short cut but I could make a quick small macro which one triggered (either with mouse gesture, keyboard shortcut or toolbar button) will start a new sketch on the right plane.
