Is it possible to perform an FEA simulation on an assembly?
Im trying to investigate the forces on a driveshaft i have created. however it is an assembly, is an FEA simulation possible?
Yes, depending on which Simulation product you have.
which simulation product is required?
You can do a linear static in either Professional or Premium. I do FEA on assemblies all the time.
Now if you mean the assembly is actually moving, then no, that would be a dynamic study.
thanks for the help guys !
I think there are 2 questions here
single part/single body analysis > can be done in simulationxpress
multibody/assembly > can be done in sim standard and above
"moving" could imply 2 things
1. a dynamic load > requires sim prem
2. kinematics > requires motion in sim pro or sim prem or swx prem, but this is rigid body. if you want deformable bodies, you need to go to nonlinear dynamic in sim prem but this will be a challenging analysis.
in either case, I would recommend you find some static loading to do first
there is one other option
in motion you can export a single frame to fea
Thanks for the help guys, If upload my file, could someone tell me whether an FEA analysis is possible.
My model i have is of a drive shaft.
I'm trying to replicate a torque of 300Nm from one end of the shaft (i.e gear box to wheel)
Thanks in advance!
what do you want to learn in your analysis?
i'm trying to determine whether This drive shaft that i have created will be able to handle the applied torque given, from one end (300Nm)
That's easy under static linear analysis. Fix one end appropriately (as it would be IRL) and apply a torque on the other end (or appropriate forces on the correct faces to equal that torque.)
