Rendering a Large Assembly where one of the Main elements is 80% Transparent and looking for any tips (beside Hardware) on how to shorten my Rendering time.
Took two hours to Render Attached File.
It's taking a long time because SolidWorks is calculating refraction, internal reflections and shadows (and caustics if you have them enabled) through the transparent material. Instead, try rendering the trailer body as a seperate pass and using GIMP or Photoshop to composite the two images together.
The nice thing about this approach is that you can edit the alpha mask to make the trailer more transparent in some regions than others.
Agreed, I would suggest creating a section cut in the trailer body instead of making it a "glass-like" material. that is where most of the time is going.
You also may want to look at a relatively new SW feature "network rendering" which allows you to use multiple machines to perform the rendering (sharing the work).
