well, that's complicated, but here is a brief list of things I look at when I am using SolidWorks electrical
wire gauge - this is important because otherwise you won't get the right diameter and you won't be able to see interferences properly
wire color - this is important for assembly instructions and also to make it clear visually
signal name - I usually assign a signal name to the wire so when I set up the wiring diagram that information is right there
pin # - I assign pin #s to any connections even if they are null/empty.
You can add wire gauge sizes and colors so if you don't see the wire size/color you are using you can modify the library for that.
This is one of those cases where it is worth the effort to lay good groundwork by using the correct colors\sizes and assigning signal names...yes, you can just place wires on the fly - but then you will end up going back and cleaning it up.
