Quick way to show the configured dimensions of a part instead of RMB of each dimension?

Hi All,

Is there a better way to display a list of all of my configured dimensions than just RMB on the dimension I configured to bring up the configurations dialog box? Say I forget which dimensions I had configured (in the windows snips below I only have one dimension configured so its easy but what if I have several) and wanna see which ones they are. Under the FMT configuration tabs, I can see my configs but it doesn't show me which dimension was configured for the two different configurations I have in the pics below. Weird but nothing really shows on the web about showing configured dimensions except for the standard SW help links. Thanks in advance.

In SW 2014 at least there is an extra button in at the bottom of that box that shows all configured dimensions and features. But it looks like you are on 2010 and that button is missing, so I don't know what else to try.

Good afternoon Dave,

Did you try annotations - I think you would be able to set up your configurations and then you would need to set the dimension - but not 100% sure on that - if you have 10 configurations you surely don't want to show them all. I think I would experiment with how you can show the dimensions. The other thought would be to insert a custom property and add a note either on the part page or in the Custom Property Builder - you wouldn't need it on the drawing.

Those are the things I would dabble with, however there might be other guys chiming in with a lot better ideas/solutions

  Thanks John and Jamill. I'll fiddle around, just wasn't sure if this was something simple that jumps out. I'm stuck on SW2010 since the company doesn't wanna spend the $ to renew the maintenance contract apparently since I'm the only one using the software

      Funny you mention that cuz that's what I've used for the past 23 years. My company bought 5 licenses in 2008 but nobody else here ever bothered learning it. I decided to learn it two years ago and like it ALOT better than Autocad. Would never go back although acad is a little easier for certain things I quickly need to get done. I've adapted most of my 2d drawing to SW but the best thing by far is the 3d capabilities which I could have never accomplished with Autocad. And the company is beginning to see the benefits finally.

I know this is an old post but I just came upon this prob myself.

I'm on 2015 so I have the magic button which is great, but..

it didn't show me configured global vars and could not distinguish if some were linked to parent or configured solo

I added a DT with auto create, SW adds all the configured parameters so it's easy to see and fix

Helped me find one rogue misconfigured dimension that would have been tricky otherwise

  I never found a good solution to the question of this original post. You mention you have the "magic button" for SW2015? What are you referring to & sorry for sounding naive but what is "DT" that you added with "auto-create"? I'd like to know to see my configured dims in a part from a list, etc. Cya.

    Hi Dave, for sure no worries
    
    The magic button is what Jamil refer's to
    By DT I mean Design Table, when you insert one SW offers the option to Auto create it
    Then in Excel you can get an overview of all your configured dims/features like this.
    A blank space means link to parent
    
    It's pretty easy to make adjustments here, but you have to be careful if you are allowing model edits to update the DT (one of the other options above). You can choose to keep the design table, or like me in this case just delete it

      Thanks. Actually I do recall using the "magic button" in the past but not for . I don't use Design Tables much but am aware that you can see the configured dims from this table, just thought there was a quicker way without having to open up a DT/excel view (something like a quick drop-down box or double clicking on the part as below to show all the dims which would maybe have a symbol next to it denoting that that particular dimension is a configured one would be nice). In the second snip below, I used the magic button and have all three configured but the extrude D1 dim has the same values for all configs. In any case, thanks as always for the info. Cya.

        My dream option would be a filter in the equations box, that's where I work with dims most. But this was done in photoshop

        When I RMB on a configured column and choose delete (your 1st snapshot), it will erase it from the view but still retain all sizes for that configured dim. Then if I click out, and go back in again by RMBing on that same dimension, the column will once again appear. One thing I saw is that if there are two or more columns present, there is an option to delete one of them; if its the only column, there is no option to delete. So I agree, really not sure what is the point of that option to erase, other than deleting that column from the view while you're in that dialog box.

        Although it won't show a list of the dimensions, there is a setting that will display dimensions that differ between configurations as a different color when you click on a feature (or double-click if you don't have Instant 3d turned on). Mine are bright pink. I'm pretty sure that's a default setting, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm at home today and don't have access to SW here, but I'm pretty sure it's at Tools > Options > System Options >Colors. And then something like "Dimensions, configuration specific" in the drop-down.

        Glenn, that bright pink is default for dims controlled by a design table - does not cover configuration specific dims not in a design table.
