How do I constrain the path mate in the motion studiy. to get this hinged part animated so it looks like it is falling under gravity

Instead of applying pate mate, apply 2 "Coincident Mate" and apply 1 "Distance Limit Mate" which lies under "Advanced Group". By applying these constrains you'll never get problem in motion.

motion solver
I figured out how to drive the path mate through the animation tool.Which is what I wanted.
When you say, "It won't resolve in the motion analysis," do you mean that nothing happens when you play back the motion or that the ramp doesn't appear to drop under the force of gravity?
If it's the former, then I'd try to alter the path so that there's a single curve going from translation of the bin and ramp to lowering of the ram. Try putting a fit spline on the two legs of your path.
If the problem is that it doesn't look natural, then try this:
Apply a gravitational force to the ramp,
Remove the vertical leg from the path and shorten the horizontal leg to the point where the bin is supposed to stop
Apply the path constraint to the bin instead of the ramp.
