    Bend and weld interaction?

    Jamie Steele

Hi All, new to the forums.

I've got a problem with the interaction of a mitred welded joint and a bent sheet metal part.

I have a bent sheet metal 'side plate' which has support legs welded to it. I've modelled the support leg as a 'structural member' welded mitred joint so it creates a point at the mitre join. In reality this is welded and dressed thus giving a radius.

When I assemble the leg and side plate in assembly, there becomes an interference due to the bend radius of the sheet and the point or 'tip' of the mitre joint.

Despite 'ignoring interference' in Simulation I can't create a mesh due to this interference.

I'm trying to avoid simplifications in the models as it is a particularly critical area of interest for simulation purposes.

      Any help is greatly appreciated.

      Thanks

ignore interference is for solidworks to stop reporting it, it doesn't affect simulation

a picture would be great in this case

I don't think there is anything you can do here but simplify. in the end, i'm not sure what you plan to gain from the simulation but I think it will be very challenging to get the fidelity you want at that intersection in a simulation, so the simplification is probably a reasonable assumption
