We are having trouble with users dragging folders by mistake.
What folder permission controls whether a folder can be moved?
Yes. EPDM 2015 has split Add/Rename, Move and Delete into separate permissions for folders.
from what I've learned it's not as easy as a move check box being checked or unchecked. It's the combination of User/Group permissions, as well as Folder permissions matching, with the 2nd (Add or delete) 3rd (add or rename) 8th (Delete) and 20th (Share to another) all UN-checked. Interestingly, "Move" actually equals "delete from one folder" and "Add/Create" in another. As with everything, test with a dummy folder as a user. Let me know if you need further help.
For testing, I changing a user propertis and removed all groups, I then modify the user Folder permissions.
I don't understand why the 2nd (Add or delete a folder) 3rd (add or rename file) 8th (Delete file) and 20th (Share file to another folder) are all to be checked. It seems logical to me that the "Add or delete a folder" should be UN-CHECKED?
I unchecked "Add or delete a folder" from the applicable folder (while leaving the other 3 checked) in the User properties and I was still able to add and move a folder. I tried Checking all as per your directions with the same result, was still able to add and move a folder.
I must be missing something.
Any further assistance would be helpful.
Gary - ugh, my bad, yes, UN-checked (I edited my original reply to reflect a correct answer). With that said, everything should line up as to "why". Let me know how you do.
sorry for the mistake!
As soon as I UN-check "Add or delete a folder" then our ECO template no longer functions becuase it creates a folder.
I guess we are stuck with users moving folders.
If there was a NEW "delete a folder" permission separate from "Add a folder", OR a NEW "Move a Folder" permission then I could make this work.
We are running EPDM2013, any chance EPDM2015 has made these folder permission improvements?
I resolved that. First, here is something within the Template set-up you should check.
Gary, do you have a VAR that is familiar with your setup? Your question is complex, mainly due to everything that has to work together. Abilities & permissions are sensitive, and when working through a Template Card, it can be worse. When I was having this issue, I must admit, it wasn't easy to fix, and really took both help from an AE and multiple attempts, changing things slowly, one at a time. Id be happy to walk you through my settings if need be.
Thank you for your very detailed feedback!
Sounds like EPD2015 Has added more folder permissions which should fix this issue, just another reason to upgrade from 2013!
If we don't upgrade then I may have to dive into this.
they have. As awesome as 2015 will be, I have made 2014 work quite well, and have configured it several ways. If you don't dive into 2015 soon, let me know, I can share quite a bit on what to do "pre-seperate-2015-move-command".
Did you say if you have a VAR? Do or would they help you with issues like this?
When you transition to 2015, be sure to double check the permissions for folders you create with templates. The upgrade process seems to pick reasonable defaults for folder permissions for groups and such, but not for templates. I found this out the hard way when users started having lots of permissions related problems after our upgrade. I took me a while to determine that it was only projects created after the upgrade that has issues. One I realized that, it was obvious that the permissions set by the project template were at fault.
