I have to update some drawings right now, now these drawings were made in different times, i.e 2007/2009/2010 and such, when I try to update the materials inside the cutlist it doesn't let me do it. Who made the drawings wrote down the properties of the materials instead of link these to the actual material that the body is made of. When I try to delete it (so I can select the materials option from the dropdown menu) nothings happens. How can I solve this? Any suggestion?
Glenn, I apologize, I am trying do fix this inside the part cutlist table, I go to my features tree, click on the cutlist icon, click on the bodies that I want to change, properties, and then when the window pops out, I try to delete the previous material from that cutlist element, so I can link it with the new material (the one that the body is made of) hopefully you will understand what I am saying
Can you expand Cut List in the tree down the each individual body, right-click, choose Material from the drop-down, and change by choosing "Edit Material"? If that doesn't work, can you post the part?
Glenn, as you can see in this part you can define the materials for each item inside the cutlist table, but you can not change the values in the table itself, someone wrote them down manually, and so far I do not know how to change them
Now I see what you mean. Go to the drop-down for Value / Text Expression and choose "Material". That's what I did to fix the top one.
When I do that it seems it changes, but when you re open the cutlist or go to the Cut List Summary, everything stays the same, no change was made
I see. I hate to admit it, but I don't know what else to try. Can you start over and make a new part?
Don't know if you got this sorted. seems like something has gone awry in the file.
However there is an option you could try:
Open the cutlist properties.
Select all the properties and copy them to the clipboard.
Close the cutlist properties.
RMB on the weldment symbol below the origin and select properties.
hi-light the top row and paste the original properties.
Set the material to the material variable.
close the property window.
delete the cutlist and recreate it.
As long as there were no other manual inputs this should work. takes about 30secs
I'm guessing here; in earlier soldiworks versions the material property could be anything manually typed or linked. In the later versions (at least 2012 on ) it is linked to the material variable and can't easily be overwritten. I can't verify the change point as I only go back to 2012 on my system. If you have earlier versions (you list 2010) can you change the property to link directly to the material? Even if I'm wrong it may spark someone else to give an explanation.
Where was the information entered before? If it was in the cut list in the drawing, you should be able to re-assign the column, but if that doesn't work have you have you tried deleting the entire column and inserting another one that is linked to the Material property? Maybe that's what you tried, it's not clear (at least not to me) where or what you tried to delete.
