License Reporting / LMUTIL problem

I am using X-Formation License Statistics to track and report usage in Solidworks. After a recent upgrade to Solidworks Solidnetwork License Manager 23.1.1.0002 (11.11.1.2), we are unable to pull info from the Solidworks NLM. X-Formation technical support says their program must be able to get output from lmutil lmdiag -n -c port@server_name.

When I run this command either from the reporting server, or even locally on the Solidworks NLM itself, I get no output as follows:

This works fine on every other FlexLM based server (Autodesk, PTC, National Instuments), but not this one. I know the Solidworks NLM is working fine because users are pulling licenses. I just cannot run any usage reports if LMUTIL is not reporting back any information.

Any help would be appreciated.

IT WORKED! I am happy to report that switching from "Network Activation" to an actual License file did the trick! Using an actual license file now, and X-Formation License Statistics can now monitor and report on Solidworks usage! All good!

I have the exact same problem with our Magicad licenses and X-Formation. I also have a numerous different licensing servers from Autodesk and other vendors where everything still works fine, but i cannot solve this problem.

Did you get any further in your troubleshooting?

Hi Thomas,

I have definitively come to the conclusion that Solidworks Network License Manager 2015, will not work with a FlexLM monitoring system like X-Formation.

X-Formation requires the following for a FlexLM based license manager:

1. The command: lmutil lmdiag -n -c [port]@host must be able to read the license file and get a list of all authorized products.

2. The command: lmutil lmstat -a -c [port]@host must be able to read the actual usage of licenses.

For our current Solidworks 2015 NLM, the license file only authorizes the server itself. No product information is contained in the license. All product licenses and features are controlled by the Network License Activation directly to Solidworks. We finally talked to someone from support who confirmed that their SolidNetworks License Manager is not a full implementation of FlexLM, and "will not work with 3rd party monitoring tools".

We are asking if it is possible to switch from "Network Activation" to an actual License file to see if that will work, but given their comments that their NLM "will not work with 3rd party monitoring tools", I am doubtful. I will report back once we switch to a real License file.

For reference i just wanted to write back that i solved my problem by updating the x-formation software to the latest version 4.19.1. X-formation was very reluctant and were sure that the problem was elsewhere, but fact of the matter was that everything worked after updating. I hope that my findings along with the original poster can help somebody else to make their things work.

Hi Raymond,

I know this is an old issue, but may I ask how you managed to get a "real" license file?

Because we've also got issues with our license management/tracking software, I've been trying to get a license file for week now, but I didn't succeed (we are using SolidWorks 2015, and the support staff tell us that network activation would be the only available license method).
