I want to be able to find the part in the design tree on the left in order to check info on it. Is there a way to do this?
If you click on the face of a Part, it should highlight in the assembly tree. It has to be a face, edges don't work. Does that answer your question?
This sounds like two different questions to me, but I'll try to answer both. To highlight the part in the feature manager when it is selected in the graphics view, go to System Options->FeatureManager and turn on the first checkbox "Scroll selected item into view". To select an entire part (body) vs. just a face in the graphics view, you could turn on the Filter Solid Bodies selection filter from the Selection Filter Toolbar.
How do you turn on the Filter Solid Bodies selection filter?
Right click in the toolbar area and add the Selection Filter Toolbar (also F5 by default?) and then it should be the tenth button from the left (yellow box icon).
Goto Assemble -> Press "F5" For the Selection Filter Toolbar to arise at the bottom of your Status bar. In Selection Filter
Switch on the Part Filter. After Switching on the part filter. Now you can select only the part file.
Thanks and Regards
