Are there any errors in the client log on his machine?
Did you ever figure out anything in relation to this issue? We are encountering similar problems. However, we have several users that are encountering this when performing save operations. We are being advised by our VAR to upgrade to SP 2.1 since we are currently using EPDM 2015 SP1.1. Since you are having the same issue when not using any products in the 2015 release series it makes me question if this particular issue is related to the SP level or not (2015 SP2.1 applies specifically to 2015 releases).
Is the message in the client log the same as what is shown above?
i didn't solved the problem in itself, as our IT and myself were incapable of finding the real culprit. We just swapped computers with a freshly formatted one, and it solved this issue. To explain further, this user had this problem only when saving. If he did a check-in, EPDM will save and check-in the document. He had to do a check-out afterwards, which was rather long...
since you seem to have multiple user having the same problem, it might be a different cause in your case. Do you have any error similar to the one I posted overhead?
Thanks for the quick responses...
It sounds like in your case it was a highly repeatable problem for the one user. Our issue is very random.
I did not have the same error message showing up in the client log. There wasn't anything in the log at the time the event happened but there was an error logged about 15 minutes later regarding being unable to contact the revision management system. We've had that error come up a few times now. We are not experiencing any issues with connectivity with other software packages but EPDM seems to believe it cannot find the server on occasion for some reason.
I also think EDraw 2014 has messed up our EPDM client installation and perhaps this is a byproduct of that as well. So perhaps refreshing the client machines would address the problem as it did in your situation. We originally had EDraw 2014 included with our SW14 admin image deployment. When we went forward with the EPDM deployment, EDraw 2015 is included in the client installation but EDraw 2014 was never removed as it would have required a full SW uninstall/reinstall. We now have other issues where the preview tab doesn't always work and explorer.exe crashes all the time. Using the preview tab in EPDM seems to be highly related to the Explorer.exe crashes.
We are new to EPDM and so far it's been a bit of a rocky road getting things going. Hopefully we can tie up some of these odd issues and move on with customizing EPDM to make our processes better.
You will definitely have issues if you install edrawings with SW and EPDM. You should always let EPDM install edrawings. You will have to remove all vestiges of edrawings and then reinstall the EPDM client to fix the issues associated with that. There is a manual procedure for removing edrawings. See Solution ID S-040655.
Get that sorted out and then see if your other problems persist.
Concerning to such matter "An unknown error occurred while accessing", what I have done as a palliative solution, was: go to the model, then go to file > reload the model and press ok.
At least, I could save the files as well as all the drawings related to the model and my progress were saved after all.
This is just a suggestion for those who are in a hurry!
All the best,

Last few days i am facing the same issue. I got this error message only on a particular part again and again when i tried to save.
Firstly i felt like this is due to the network connectivity issue in e-pdm. But the real problem exist in "equations".
This particular part is undergoing so many modification and i already have few relations between dimensions.
What i did is i removed some of the parent feature which is having the reference to the equation. Because i removed those features, child part failed but the above error is being popped every time i tried to save the part.
I removed those failed equation from the model tree and now the part is fine.
Probably this can be one place where you can expect some errors !!!
Save the file in another location, i had this same problem with the pipe spool assembly.
Has a solution, or work around been found for this issue? I'm unable to save a number of Cable Assemblies. The error points to a number of files, both in the PDM (2016) and Autosave (local Temp) directory.
Same thing happened to me . I have backup my documents. So I close all my solidworks programs and replace the pard and assembly from my old backup . And the problem was gone .
It's actually a lot simpler on how to fix this problem if no one has solve it yet. All you have to do fix it is go to your drawing and right click on it and open the assembly because the reason why it's causing the problem is because it's looking for the model/ASM. This little trick worked for me I don't know for sure if it will work for everybody.
It's been awhile since there was any activity on this thread, but I've had the problem a couple of times now and found that it is feature related, and if you suppress/delete the offending feature you can save again.
For example, today I was working on a part that was saving fine (SW2016 SP5). After working on it for about 15 minutes after the last save, I tried to save but got the error. Saving a copy in the vault doesn't work, nor does saving a copy locally. Reloading the file at this point would mean I lose all the unsaved work. Instead, I suppressed a couple dozen of my latest features and found I could save again (simply rolling back does not work). Then I unsuppressed a few features at a time until I found the offending feature - I deleted it and moved on.
Why a feature should have any affect on the ability to save a file is beyond me, but it's happened a couple of times now.
I get a similar error (message)
In my case I have a multi-body part. Each body is inserted in to a new part.
First time I saw this issue I tried to break all references with the original part. This caused all the trouble. The solution was to keep the links between the master-model and the external parts (created from bodies).
Unfortunately now I'm getting errors again when I try to do modifications on the master-model. The links between files exist but I can save the master model anymore.
Just feels like I should never used this 'Insert into new part...' feature. Very week feature!
