Should Flat-Pattern have "Rebuild/Save Mark" setting checked?

We have several sheet metal parts that have external references.   When these external references are modified, the parts are updated and saved at the same time.   On some parts, the Flat-Pattern config is not updated.   I know they SolidWorks added the 'Rebuild/Save Mark' in SW 2013, is this suppose to be enabled for these configurations?  I am not clear on when you should or shouldn't use this 'Rebuild/Save Mark' feature.   When it comes to Flat-Patterns, I always want them updated when the Default config is updated.
