How can I do a "save as" of a model to a vector format rather than pixels for the image?
I answered my own question. Very simple, just put it into a drawing and then save it as a pdf and the image will be a vector format automatically.
You can save as PDF/AI fromat form the model itself. In save as type, set the required file type and follow the instructions.
Deepak, Thank you for the reply. I tried a save as for the model but don't find the option for PDF/AI, only PDF and under the options for PDF I find only PDF along with other formats. Is this PDF/AI fairly recent in SolidWorks or do I need to obtain a plug-in for it?
This is what I see on save as from part file with SW Premium. No add-ins used or installed.
I see the same thing as you show, but, when I select pdf and then save, the resulting pdf image is in a dot matrix format and not the vector format. Before I do the save there is an options button available that I could select, but the only option there that is appropriate is for high quality lines but that still doesn't result in a vector format.
Did you tried saving it as AI file instead of PDF?
Yes I did save the model as an AI file and the resulting image is a dot matrix. I think I will just continue to put the view into a drawing format, save as a pdf and then it will be a vector image.
Thank you very much for your input.
