I have to close SW and re-open to create new parts. I recently updated to 2015
Do you get an error message when you try to create a new file? What version did you upgrade from? What SP of 2015 did you upgrade to?
What SP? If you installed from DVD, try a repair with the online download.
Did you update an older version or do a clean uninstall & install?
How to ensure a clean uninstall and update of SolidWorks
Did you update the graphics driver after installing SW15?
Run the SOLIDWORKS Rx > Diagnostics tool to check.
SolidWorks Rx - The Computer Doctor Is In
This update is on a new computer. Previous version was SW 2014 on old computer. The problem seems to be hit and miss. It started working properly 20 minutes after posting.
I have the same problem. Just updated from 2014, our IT department did the update. Mine happens after saving a .DXF from sheet metal. I have to close, then re open SW to create a new part.....Anybody have a clue ??
Tim, what happens when you try to create a new part (and please don't say, "it doesn't create it.") Does the New Part icon not appear? When you click the New Part icon does the part template dialog box not appear, what's the deal.
Also, if you can post a screen shot of your SolidWorks Rx diagnostics report, that would help us identify hardware or software issues.
(Look for Solidworks 2015 Rx in the start menu)
Here is my path
-Design/Redraw sheetmetal part
-save solid file
-save flat .DXF
Then when I try to start a new part, the icon is there and shows that I clicked ( turns a darker color ) but nothing happens.
The new part template window does not open
I've tried CTRL+N nothing happens
File-New nothing happens
There is no error, my computer does not freeze or lag
Well, it sounds like the part window is off-screen.
When this happens, can you escape out of the new command back to SolidWorks?
If you can, then when the new dialog doesn't show up, I would check to see if the top of it is visible behind the start menu and fish it out of there.
I have this problem occiasionally with the color dialog box and I attribute it to complications of multiple monitors.
going to try to find it and fish it out
thanks for your time!!
Tim, did you ever find a solution to this? I have several coworkers experiencing a very similar issue. Thanks!
Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and found a solution? I have SW 2018 SP4.
I had the same issue and found another post that mentioned if you open another part and close it, the new part/assembly/drawing dialog box should work again. Weird bug and work-around, but it works for me when that happens.
Thank you, but I'm not sure what I did to fix the issue, but it doesn't happen to me any more. I've had so many issues that I had to figure out on my own, because my IT dept is a bunch of idiots that won't take care of the main problems, so I have to come-up with so many work-arounds.
Also, I still have SW 2018 SP 4. If I ask for SP5, that would be another HUGE ISSUE for my dumbass IT dept.
Thank you Daniel!
I've been having the same troubles creating a drawing after saving a flat layout. I've always had to shut down and restart Solidworks to get it working. Your work-around is a time saver.
Same bug is still prevalent in SW2019 as well.
Yeah, this happens to me too, but I've got a 10 year old computer with 7 versions of SW on it. Just assumed I was running into versions stepping on one another.
Well, I know we had some issues with ACAD files when we had different releases on our network, so we all updated and just told our customers that they would have to upgrade as well to open our files and once we got everyone on the same page, the issues went away, so might help to just keep the latest version installed. That's what I would do.
