Hi guys, I'm new to solidworks and I am trying to flatten a ellipse that is 10"X15" like in the part I attached. It is thin extruded but when I try to add a bend it tells me it is not possible. Basically what I want to do is flatten the 10"x15" oval(ellipse) after I make a 4" hole 15 Deg from center.
I also tried to make the ellipse using arcs but then it gives me an error saying that some bends could not be collected.
I seem to be stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you John, unfortunately I have SW2012, for the ellipse did you use the ellipse command, cause I tried drawing the oval using the ellipse command and cut it like you did. I also thin extruded it, but when I try to add the the bend it will not let me. But fro mwhat your saying use the base flange? problem is I made my sketch exactly like yours but when I try to the lenght I need using base flange it tells me ,"the sketch has more than one open contour."

You can also do an extrude then select an interior edge and insert a bend
