You've got to give us more specific information.
OS Windows 8.1
amd phenom ii x4
16gh Ram
AMD Firepro W4100 with cirtifide driver
1T Sata HDD
Its a fresh install of Windows and all drivers are up to Date. windows Updates have all been installed as well. E-drawings, Composer Player and Solidworks Explorer will open and run fine but Solidworks 2015 will not do a thing nothing at all i have reinstalled 3 times the second time it would give a message solidworks run side by side configuration error check Log or SXStrac.exe. I did a Google search and found info that some times the prereq 2005 or some thing dose not install so i did that manually and still had the same problem. I have now installed the third time and now the software will not even start. i must say i am angry after paying all that cash and it is giving me problems.
Did you reported to your VAR (the company from where you've purchased SW) Or is this a student/education version?
I have contacted the person who i deal with but no reply yet. Its Solidworks 2015 Standard not educational.
Out of curiosity, it's Windows 8.1 Pro correct?
Run SolidWorks Rx and let's see what it says. Maybe it's running your motherboard video card instead of your FireGL
my issue has been sorted by NT Cadcam and i am glad that i ran with them as my software vendor they have been great in support from start.
1. have to activate admin user account as windows 8.8 will not give full rights on a standard user account even if it states administrator.
2. switch off any antivirus
3. Right click and run install as administrator.
4. Once install has finished go into PreReq folder on the disc and manually run all windows parts.
5. Restart system and thats it all done.
I belive my issue had been the Windows Visual Studio 2005 had not been installed during the SW Install.
I hope this helps any one else who have had a similar problem or will be installing SW2015 with Windows 8.1 OS

More info about your system will probably help to get an answer - Operating system, RAM, Graphics card, etc.
Did you get any error messages when you were installing? When you run SW, are there any error messages or does it just do anything at all?
