I have multiple components in an assembly that I want to group and manipulate as a group (in this case create a circular pattern). Does Solidworks have the capability of grouping model tree items so I can pick that group to manipulate? I know I can select all the tree items and pattern them that way, I would like to be able to organize the parent feature better though.
I'm coming from a Creo background and I used this functionality heavily for manipulations like above and for organizing the model tree. I'm thinking it has to be in here....hopefully.... Maybe someone who's used both systems has looked for this functionality already to know....
I'm not sure this is the right sub-group to put the question in or not.
Thx...
I've never used Creo, but I'll try to help.
You can Ctrl+select (or Shift+select) multiple components from the tree, right-click, and choose "Add to New Folder". That will create a folder in the tree with all the selected components in it, which works well for organizing a long tree. While you can't select the folder itself for components to pattern, they're easy to select since they're grouped together.
Sub-assemblies is another option. That will let you pattern all components.
