If you select the helix and open the measure tool then it will tell you the arc length. If you are asking for a way to define a helix by the total length then I don't think you can do that.
I think that's what I want... The "arc length".. Which is the actual physical linear length of the helix if it were to be stretched out straight, correct?
Right, the arc length is the total length. If you want to verify this you could make a helix with diameter 1 and super tiny pitch and 1 revolution and verify that the arc length is pi.
