Recently loaded 2015. Cannot create a folder in assembly tree and GUI locks up
Did you upgrade from a previous version or do a clean install?
Did you run SolidWorks Rx to see if there are any conflicts? Most 2015 installs need to have the graphics card driver updated as well.
We are missing some critical information in your question. With that in mind we will presume you are using a late MS Windows computer.
The simplest way I know of to create a folder while in the Assembly mode is to save the newly created assembly file, and before creating the file name click on the Windows icon to create a new folder. From that point on you provide the folder with a unique name, then open the folder and provide a file name for the assembly you have just worked on.
This is a clean install on newly formatted machine. New updated video loaded and solidworks RX ran. No additional problems shown. Any Ideas?

Without any files open, go to Options->System Options->Performance and check 'Use software OpenGL', then 'ok'. Now try out SolidWorks and see if things are still locking up. If they don't, it's your video card.
However, that really doesn't explain why you can't create a folder in the assembly tree...
Jeff...thanks for your help. Tried everything you suggested, but no go. Still getting "invalid argument" error. Per your suggestion, looking for a new video card...any suggestions on a good work horse card that won't break the bank?
Invalid argument error? Is that when you try to create a folder?
As for a video card, I use an AMD FirePro V4900. You can find one on NewEgg for $150. AMD FirePro V4900 100-505844 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 Workstation Video Card - Newegg.com
I get this error if I try to create a new folder. It will create the folder but I receive this error with every command I perform after the folders been made. It's really unworkable and the folder has to be deleted. I'm going to order the card you recommended and hopefully that will fix the issue. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks for your help.
The card won't fix the issue. I suggested a new card based on you talking about the GUI locking up and the apparent no change when you tried OpenGL.
You inability to create a new folder probably has to do with something screwy going on with the install. I would run a repair on the install then, if that doesn't work, uninstall/reinstall.
Out of curiosity, have you contacted your VAR?
