I'm sure we aren't the only ones who've run into this issue.
We use the inch symbol in our weldment descriptions.
After upgrading to 2015, and using the new feature "Rename cut list folders with Description property value", the length does not read correctly in the cut list on the drawing.
Seems the quotes cause the software to only use a portion of the description.
I've submitted this to my VAR who has forwarded it to Solidworks.
I feel this is a major issue. We can't change the descriptions in all of our weldment profiles.
It would be a huge job for one, and also our purchasing guy would not like seeing the cut lists reading differently than he's used to.
Also, no matter what we do, the box keeps defaulting to checked?
You are not alone having these issues, we ran into similar issues since upgrading to Solidworks 2015. The first issue with weldment cutlist is that the length doesn't update properly. The displayed Length was the length of the sketch line, even if we applied a trim or a cut-extrude. The solution was to go under
-Tools>Options>Document Properties> Weldments.
Clear the checkbox beside "Rename cut list folders with Description property value"
Yet we have to be careful, because it is a document property. Whenever we open an old part, we have to uncheck that box over and over again. Then 2nd issue I noticed is the one you mentioned. When a part has inch (") symbol in the description, length won't display properly. I found one item in our weldment library that had that symbol and displayed a weird length. Taking these symbols off solved that issue (L4"x3"x1/4" vs L4x3x1/4).
